Design story

After the apocalypse, the humans all died out. But the radioactive fallout from the nukes, mutated the animals that were left. Dogs, were chief among them. To survive, out in the nuclear wastelands, they used the gasmasks left behind by the humans. Whenever they left their safe zones, the had to put on those masks, which was painful for some of them for it reminded them of the muzzles that they were once forced to wear. But as they say, survival of the fittest.
